Gracefully-chiseled proportions and alluring bodywork highlight the striking exterior design of the BMW 7 Series. Drivers will have access to the latest BMW iDrive 8 infotainment system in addition to a 14.9-inch Central Information Display. There are 11 different paint color options, as well as 15 interior options, with a huge selection of additional bespoke options available through BMW Individual. The BMW Interaction Bar integrates a number of controls, as well as beautiful interior lighting.
What the Critics Say
Its handling is a little more lithe than the 2022 car’s thanks to some changes to the chassis and suspension, including a new rear-wheel steering system. Its driver-assistance tech provides a semi-autonomous driving mode for highway slogs but the car’s showstopping feature is an optional 31.3-inch rear entertainment display called Theater Screen that drops from the ceiling and streams TV and movies using the onboard Wi-Fi system.” — Car & Driver
Both gas engines are mated to an eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission and both ship as standard with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. This mild-hybrid system can boost the output by 12 hp and 147 lb-ft of torque. The additional low-down torque supplied by the electric motor will likely positively affect fuel consumption. At higher speeds, the car will also engage a coasting function. The engine will shut down completely, but the vehicle will retain a steady pace using only the 147 lb-ft provided by the electric motor.” — CarBuzz
What’s New for 2023
The 2023 7 Series is a complete redesign, an entirely new generation of the revered nameplate. This is the biggest 7 Series to date, and there is a whole slew of new and unique design and luxury features. Things like the BMW Interation Bar and the massive rear BMW Theater Screen aren’t things you’ll find on any competing car. This new 7 Series is on the absolute cutting edge of technology, while still setting the bar for large luxury sedans.
BMW 7 Series Features
Styling & Performance
As the pinnacle of the BMW sedan lineup, the 7 Series offers dynamic yet contemporary styling that makes a bold statement upon your arrival. The biggest 7 Series ever, an updated BMW kidney grille offers a more powerful visual presence and offers a larger cooling area for its adjustable vanes. A chiseled hood along with an array of exterior colors and wheel designs provide virtually endless customization options for your 7 Series. There are even available genuine crystal headlights.
The standard engine for the 7 Series is a 3.0-liter BMW TwinPower Turbo inline 6-cylinder producing 375 horsepower. For those wanting more power, there is a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 that produces a staggering 536 horsepower. Reviewed separately is the i7, a fully electric version of the 7 Series that also produces up to 536 horsepower. A plug-in hybrid is in the works as well. All trims and engine options of the 7 Series come with BMW’s excellent xDrive system, for optimal grip and performance in all weather conditions.
The BMW 7 Series is at its most impressive on the inside. The automatic doors open to a magnificently appointed interior. Select the Executive Lounge package, and get power-adjustable reclining back seats. These are available in a variety of leather options, and BMW Individual lets you choose a mix of leather and cashmere. The available BMW Theater Screen lets you sit back and enjoy streaming TV and movies while the seats massage you. There is a panoramic sunroof to let in natural light during the day, and at night multi-color LEDs provide illumination and set the mood. Up front you’ll find controls made of glass, and a curved display that joins the 12.3-inch Digital Instrument Cluster up with the 14.9-inch Central Information Display. You have wireless Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ compatibility, and there is an available Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System with 32 channels and 40 speakers.
